Texas On-line Clearinghouse
Back in October of 1997 there was a online discussion about the need to have a statewide clearinghouse of bird sightings from around the state. We all have interesting records that are perhaps significant on a regional basis, but not really of interest statewide. The problem was that no organization was set up to collect that kind of data.
... but now there is the world wide web, and it doesn't take an organization to collect data. The right resources make it possible for one person to do it.
I hope the Texas On-line Clearinghouse will become a large repository of ornithological data for the Great State of Texas. I think these records can help us understand more about the bird life of Texas, but we need records for that. Don't be shy about entering a record if it is unusual. I'm especially interested in getting records from those areas of the state that are seldom birded.
Options:
- Submit a record to the clearinghouse database
- When you enter a record it will immediately be available for everyone to see, so be honest. I can't collect everyone's trip list so only enter birds in
categories like these: TBRC Review Species, Rare for region, Unusually large number, Unusually small number, Early arrival, Late departure, Late migrant, and Breeding records. If your record doesn't fall in one of the
categories supplied, let me know. Be careful when entering dates, there is no check
on the date so try not to enter a date like Feb 31.
- Submit Historic Records to the clearinghouse database.
- Use this link for older records (older than a couple of weeks). Records can be weeks, months,
or years old. Please only enter records where you are the observer or the archiver of the
documentation for that observation. Records entered here will not update the recent sightings.
- Search the database
- You can search the database for all occurrences of a species or by county.
Text Formats are better suited to cutting and pasting to other applications
and should print faster.

- Review the most recent sightings
- I'll try and keep this to between 50 and 100 sightings so it will load fairly fast. Not all data will be available on this display either.
