Texas County Listing

Listing bird species by county is growing in popularity.  With 254 Counties this presents a huge area to explore. Even though more than 620 species of birds have been recorded in Texas, most of the birding occurs in just a few "Hot Spot" counties. Texas is a huge and varied place, surely new and interesting things about bird distribution and records could be discovered if we birded in more places.

This is a prototype website to allow you to play the listing game in Texas and it will hopefully develop shortly into an award program I like to call "The Texas Century Club" the goal of the award would be to record at least 100 species in 100 Texas Counties. I envision a tiered award system, perhaps starting with a basic award for recording 100 species in five counties, working up to becoming a Texas Century Club Member. After achieving 100 species in 100 county there would be endorsements for more counties. Can a birder record 100 species in all Texas Counties?

This website will allow you to keep track of your records and to see how you are doing with others playing the game. It will also allow when the database gets populated to generate a checklist for Texas Counties.
