Marbled Godwit

Last updated 3/19/96

Marbled Godwit are common spring migrants (last half of March and April) with a few birds wintering on the UTC. An even smaller number stay over the summer.

Marbled Godwits are the only mostly cinnamon colored godwit in North America. The only other godwit expected on the UTC, the Hudsonian Godwit is grayer. The Hudsonian will have black wing linings and a white rump patch, the Marbled has rusty underwings and no rump patch. Of course the Marbled godwit will have the long slightly upturned bicolored bill of a godwit.

Marbled Godwits will be found on bay shores, mud flats, flooded prairies, and estuaries.
